Hey, friend! I (Adriana) just started Know Your Prayers and welcome to this site where you'll very soon find prayers and resources. But, before I put out some of the most beautiful and important Catholic Prayers, let us see what the saints have to say about Prayer. Here are 10 quotes on prayer that I find really beautiful:

1) For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.

~St. Teresa of Avila

Prayer is truly a conversation with God, our Father and Friend. And so, instead of just uttering prayers, make it more like a conversation with God; converse with God during your prayer time, just like a fun conversation with a close friend.

2) Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.

~ St. Teresa of Calcutta

Ah, I just can't get enough of Mother Teresa's quotes. Rightly said by her, prayer is not asking, it is listening to God. It is putting every single thing into God's hands, and trust me, you will never regret doing this. Give that life to God, friend!

3) Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart.

~ St. Padre Pio

'Prayer is the key to God's heart.'

4) Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.

~ St. Padre Pio

Why do you have to worry once you pray? Do you not know that Our God is a merciful God? He certainly will answer you prayers and do what is right and best for you.

5) If God seems slow in responding (to your prayer), it is because He is preparing a better gift. He will not deny us. God withholds what you are not yet ready for. He wants you to have a lively desire for His greatest gifts. All of which is to say, pray always and do not lose heart.

~ St. Augustine of Hippo

The quote speaks for itself.

6) The desire is thy prayers; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer.

~ St. Augustine of Hippo

If you desire for something desperately, pray unceasingly.

7) I (pray) like children who do not know how to read, I say very simply to God what I wish to say, without composing beautiful sentences, and He always understands me.

~ St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Can you say the same about yourself?

8) For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.

~ St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Pray not only when you are in difficult situations, or when you want to ask something for yourself, pray also in good times.

9) Prayer joined to sacrifice constitutes the most powerful force in human history.

~ St. John Paul II

Wondering what you can sacrifice? Well, St. Paul gave us an example in the Letter to the Hebrews - Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:16)

10) Whether or not our prayer is heard depends not on the number of our words, but on the fervor of our souls.

~ St. John Chrysostom

True. True. True.

Now that you've read what our friends in heaven have to say about prayer, go, pray and if your prayers are not being answered, do not be disappointed, don't give up on God. Know that he has far greater plans for you than your own. Let go and let God.

God bless!
